CAM’S JOURNEY

I am an entrepreneur.

A growth-minded risk taker. I have borne companies into this world and ushered them out. I’ve made millions building and selling businesses and lost millions unwinding those that didn’t create value.

I grew up south of Boston, with both the accent and grit that comes with the territory. I arrived in Colorado a brazen 19-year-old who had just joined the Army to help put myself through school at Colorado State. I graduated with a bachelor’s in computer information systems and was immediately snatched up by Accenture. But after being treated just like all my peers despite putting in more effort and achieving bigger results, I recognized I’d never be satisfied getting “Meets Expectations” on my reviews and traveling a well-worn path rut.

It was time to leave the big company environment to strike out on my own.

In the 20 years since, I’ve shed my Boston accent and launched more than ten companies and still operate several, primarily in real estate and retail. Yes, I’ve had a few less-than-successful adventures, in the quick service restaurant space and in speculative real estate investing, but I’m proud to say that the first enterprise I ever started is still in business today.

I love both big cities and the outdoors, so Denver is the perfect place to call home – even more so because I share it with my wife and partner in crime, Katie; our two daughters, Claire and Quinn; and our son Colton. When I’m not growing companies, you’ll find me running, skiing, reading, traveling with my family and spending as much time in the mountains as possible. I am a lifelong learner interested in business, history, and personal and professional growth.

After more than a decade of actively participating in and leading a few different peer-based organizations for entrepreneurs and business owners, I realized that while some of these non-profits have been good, none have been great. All heavily relied on volunteers to achieve their mission and I gave thousands of hours of my time to their causes. But I always knew something was missing. Where was the transparency, the accountability to stakeholders? The professional execution? I saw an opportunity to do it better.

That’s why I started Ascendeur. We build and grow Professionally Executed Entrepreneurial Communities.  So my journey continues and the next adventure begins.
